Tap

Tap dance is a rhythmic and percussive dance style that transforms the dancer into both a mover and a musician. Using special shoes equipped with metal taps, dancers create intricate beats and syncopated rhythms by striking the floor with their feet. Originating from a blend of African, Irish, and English step dances, tap has evolved into a dynamic art form with styles ranging from Broadway tap, known for it's theatrical flair, to rhythm tap, which emphasizes complex footwork and musicality.

Rooted in street dance culture, hip hop is a dynamic and expressive style featuring isolations, grooves, popping locking, and freestyle elements. Classes explore various hip hop techniques and trends.

African

African dance is a vibrant, rhythmic, and expressive art form rooted in storytelling, tradition, and community. At Dance AS, our classes introduce dancers to dynamic movement styles from across the African continent, featuring grounded footwork, polyrhythms, and high-energy combinations set to powerful drum-driven music. Community Programs

Dance AS Extensiom

Dance AS Extension is our outreach program, created to bring creativity, imagination, and movement to students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience dance. Through this initiative, we strive to make dance education accessible to all children, fostering self-expression, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the arts.

This free after-school program is offered at select elementary schools within Prince William County Schools (PWCS) and is designed to introduce students to multiple dance styles in a fun and supportive environment. Over a 14-week session, students explore ballet, jazz, contemporary, and hip-hop, with each style taught in focused three-week segments. The program concludes with a review week and an exciting final showcase, where students perform for family and friends, celebrating their hard work and progress.

Dance AS Extension is open to beginning dancers in 1st through 5th grade, with students grouped into two age levels to ensure age-appropriate instruction and growth. More than just a dance class, this program helps students develop coordination, discipline, teamwork, and confidence while encouraging creative expression. By bringing dance directly to schools, we empower students to discover the joy of movement, regardless of financial barriers or prior experience.

Dance AS Arts Fusion

Dance AS Arts Fusion is a dynamic program that expands on the core Dance AS experience by integrating visual art, live music, and international/cultural elements into dance education. This program fosters creativity and interdisciplinary learning, allowing dancers to explore the connections between movement, music, and artistic expression.

Each session incorporates live or recorded music, visual arts projects, and cultural influences that deepen students’ understanding of dance as an art form. Whether through painting inspired by movement, dancing to live percussion, or learning traditional dances from around the world, Dance AS Arts Fusion offers a rich, immersive experience that broadens artistic perspectives.

Designed to inspire and engage, this program encourages dancers to think beyond technique and embrace the full spectrum of artistic storytelling.
